APOCALYPSE
The Book of Revelation

Performed and built by Eliot Fintushel

"...breathtaking...mesmerizing...terrifying..."
--North Bay Bohemian

·        Astonishing, Relevant, Thought-Provoking

APOCALYPSE leaves audiences wide-eyed and buzzing.  Its text, though nearly two thousand years old, is as contemporary as American soldiers tramping along the Euphrates and zealots of three world religions fighting over the ancient temple site in Jerusalem--both events, and more, prefigured in John's Revelation.

"See thou hurt not the oil!" (The Book of Revelation, VI:6)

APOCALYPSE is the Pentagon Papers of our Religious Right.

·        A Unique Evening of Theater

Eliot Fintushel, two-time winner of the U.S. National Endowment for the Art's Solo Performer Award, conquers audiences with his passionate rendition of John, a Jew imprisoned by Romans on the Isle of Patmos.  Through his eyes we see the end of the world in fire and blood, as set down in John's Revelation, the Bible's final book.

Fintushel becomes the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the Whore of Babylon.  With ancient chants in Greek, Latin, and Hebrew, playing music on antelope's horn, cymbal, bells, and drones, he tears open the Seven Seals.  Wearing masks in masks, he becomes both the Woman Clothed in the Sun and her enemy, The Beast.

"...the mother of all revenge tales ..."

"The 'reviews' were excellent.
It really got people talking and thinking."

--Reverend George Tyger (

WHO WAS THAT MASKED MAN?         Eliot Fintushel, a baker's son from Rochester NY, has been making his living as an itinerant showman for about a quarter century.  Before that, armed with a BA in Philosophy, he washed dishes, picked blueberries, cut cabbage, moved pianos, trimmed apple trees, delivered cheesecakes, degreased machine parts, delivered mail, worked in canneries, ran sewer pipe, sold genuine West German gold leaf to sign painters on NY's Lower East Side, cleaned the houses of the suburban rich, collected bulk garbage, raked cemeteries, filled potato chip bags with insulating air for Schuller's, serviced newspaper boxes, cleaned diner toilets for the Deco Buffalo chain, and studied koan Zen for five years with Philip Kapleau and Toni Packer, boring into the wall, the wall, the wall, the wall, until it was gone.  He is a creator and performer of mask, mime, and clown theater, with incursions into puppetry, improv, and performance art.  He has twice received the NEA Solo Performer Fellowship.  Eliot has performed nearly 4,000 shows at schools, theaters, and community centers, plus solo performances at the National Theater in Washington DC and at various international festivals.  He is also a consultant and teacher of performance for professional companies, universities, and in special projects among diverse and difficult populations.  Fintushel is also a science fiction writer whose work has appeared in many magazines and anthologies.  ASIMOV'S SF, where his work frequently appears, has dubbed him "crown prince of gonzo."  He was a finalist for the Nebula and Sturgeon Awards, and his work can be easily found in your local library in YEAR'S BEST SCIENCE FICTION (St. Martin's Press), numbers 12 & 18. He makes his home in Santa Rosa, hard by the fairground, between the horse stables and the transmission shops.

APOCALYPSE is available for booking at theaters, schools, churches, etc.

"In my opinion, as our world sinks more and more
into possession by this archetype, nothing is more important
than the existence of a certain number of individuals
who understand what is going on."
