Waiting for the Plaster to Dry

Half Masks and Full-face Masks
In Main Street Theater's Lobby
Outside the Sebastopol Arts Center, visitors to a sculpture exhibit had a chance to sit in our red chair and "get plastered."
At an Arts Council Festival on Fourth Street in Santa Rosa,
a citizen waits for the plaster to dry on his new face-cast, soon to be a mask.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the sensation of the plaster cooling on their face on a hot summer's day.
An older sister helped lay the plaster tape.
Another brave fellow is about to be vaselined and plastered at the book fair in the square.
New casts readied on the workshop table show an interesting--human--geometry.
In the studio, the plaster casts are cleaned and built up, sometimes fancifully, with papier mache.
Here a few of the masks have been built up with simple materials--bunched paper, masking tape, and secured with papier mache, plus a layer of paint. Some of the eyes are coins.
Some finished masks on display in the window of Main Street Theater in Sebastopol.
